As we speak, U.S. warships are positioned across the Caribbean in a show of force against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. This escalation, an extension of more than twenty years of hybrid warfare imposed on the Venezuelan people, their leadership, and the ongoing Bolivarian process, must be opposed by all people of conscience and progressive organizations concerned with peace and human rights in our region.
The pervasive threat of invasion by U.S. armed forces has plagued the Americas for centuries and persists as a direct obstacle to the social, economic, and political development of our peoples and nations. With its vast distribution of bases, its usage of our lands and waters for training and weapons testing, and its open manipulation of our political processes to ensure the placement of unelected leadership favorable to the expansion of regional militarization, the United States has long posed the greatest threat to national sovereignty and peaceful coexistence in our region.
The achievement of Dessalines and the courageous Haitian people is the task before us: to avenge America. To secure justice for our people and defend our region as a Zone of Peace.

The Future of Puerto Rico: 127 Years of Resistance
On July 24th, DPC hosted a panel to commemorate 127 years of Puerto Rican resistance to U.S. colonial rule. We were in conversation with Jocelyn Velazquez from La Jornada Se Acabaron Las Promesas, Ricardo Santos with the Movimiento Socialista de Trabajadores, and Dimary Burgos with Brigada Solidaria del Oeste. The objective of the panel was to understand the different challenges our people on the archipelago are facing today and how we can move forward as a unified nation toward liberation.

March for Independence

On August 31st, organizations across the archipelago and the diaspora came together to demand: Independence for Puerto Rico! Mobilizations were held in New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Chicago, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Florida. Over 3,000 people mobilized in Viejo San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The demands emanating from the archipelago clarified that independence alone won’t resolve the crises impacting our people and nation: the oppression of workers, women, and the poor, and the exploitation of our land by the forces of capitalism, imperialism, and patriarchy. The need for national unity both in the archipelago and in the diaspora is paramount and we are committed to strengthening our connections. We are one nation fighting one struggle on many fronts.

Florida | August 14: Teach-In on Alligator Alcatraz

DPC members in Miami hosted a teach-in on the Everglades concentration camp known as Alligator Alcatraz. We highlighted imperialism as the root cause of migration and connected the struggles of Latino and African migrants to those of the indigenous Miccosukee Nation of Florida. We also highlighted the kidnapping of Dominican, Cuban, and Haitian migrants by ICE in Puerto Rico and their subsequent transfer to camps in the U.S., including Alligator Alcatraz.
It was recently announced that Alligator Alcatraz would remain open, despite an earlier ruling ordering its closure. Meanwhile, another camp will soon be opened at the Baker Correctional Institution in north Florida. DPC members will continue to organize to shut down the camps and prepare for the long battle ahead against the U.S. government.
This event was endorsed and co-hosted by Black Men Build, Black Alliance for Peace, Florida Rising, Florida Student Power, Florida Immigrant Coalition, and the American Friends Service Committee.
Atlanta | August 24: Screening of Simulacros de Liberación

In partnership with Resistance Cinema ATL, DPC members in Atlanta, Georgia, presented a screening of Simulacros de Liberación. In the wake of climatically superpowered hurricanes and debilitating austerity measures, the film recounts the story of Puerto Ricans across the archipelago raising consciousness through mass movements and direct action, culminating in the resignation of Governor Ricardo Rosello in August 2019. We discussed the connections between the occupation of Puerto Rico and the occupation of Atlanta and what can be done to fight back against militarization and repression.
Maine | August 30: The People vs La Junta

On Saturday, August 30th, DPC members in Portland, Maine, hosted a community discussion on the continued exploitation of Puerto Rico as the 31st of August marked nine years since the implementation of La Junta. DPC opposes the imposition of U.S. power over Puerto Ricans, without exception. Our commitment (reflected in our 13-Point Program) is to the liberation of all oppressed peoples and nations from the forces of imperialism, colonialism, capitalism, and patriarchy.

From Newark to Puerto Rico: The Fight for Food, Land, & Liberation
The struggles faced by Puerto Rican communities in Newark, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico are deeply intertwined, both shaped by histories of colonialism and systemic oppression. From environmental racism to the privatization of basic needs and struggles for economic opportunity, both communities have suffered under policies that ignore their needs. These shared experiences of resistance against land grabs, corporate control, and environmental degradation illustrate the power of solidarity across the diaspora. By exploring these connections, we aim to shed light on the common threads that unite these struggles, fostering greater understanding of the systemic forces at play and our ongoing fight for justice and self-determination. This work is not just about understanding the past, but a call to action to continue creating just futures for our communities.

September 4: Puerto Rican Armed Struggle & Political Prisoners
To close out Black August, the DMV Chapter of DPC hosted a teach-in on September 4th to discuss the role of armed struggle as a core component of our struggle for the liberation of our homeland. Members also spoke to the importance of centering the struggle of our political prisoners and prisoners of war on the frontlines against our common enemy. We grounded the history of the past with an analysis of the present day as DC remains under occupation. We will remain in the streets to defend our communities and continue to organize in order to truly fight back against the ascending forces of fascism.

Analysis
DPC Stands Unequivocally Against U.S. Militarism in Venezuela!
The Americas must be Respected as a Zone of Peace!
In response to the escalation of hostile rhetoric and the positioning of U.S. armed forces to attack the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Diaspora Pa’lante Collective (DPC) urges all progressive forces of the region to mobilize in defense of Venezuelan sovereignty and self-determination. DPC stands unequivocally opposed to the impositions of imperialism on the peoples and nations of Our Americas, and reiterates that our region must be respected as a Zone of Peace!
The Water Crisis in Puerto Rico
Decades of imposed austerity and systematic neglect have left hundreds of thousands of Puerto Ricans, especially Afro-Boricuas in the municipality of Loíza and elsewhere across the archipelago, vulnerable to the breakdown of key infrastructure responsible for the delivery of water, electricity, and other essentials of life. We must continue to highlight the contradictions that exist within our colonial reality and mobilize in opposition to neoliberalism and our continued colonial status. Free the people, free the land!
From Borikén to the Everglades: ICE, Displacement, and Land Grabs
In Puerto Rico and Florida, state and private powers deploy fascist violence to seize control of vulnerable people and lands. In Florida, it means desecrating sacred, protected, and fragile indigenous territory to cage immigrants in mass detention, leading to disappearances and deaths. In Puerto Rico, it means the kidnapping of migrant workers, land grabs, and ecological destruction for profit. Both rely on deepening imperialist extraction and social control.
